Well we are a little closer to possibly getting a diagnosis on Xander. I drove him to La Grande to have an EKG and EEG done. The little bugger took over two hours to fall asleep for the tests so we were afraid we couldn't finish. It all turned out ok and both tests were done.
Xander's heart murmur is from something called tricuspid regurgitation. (Wikipidia says tricuspid regurgitation refers to the failure of the heart's tricuspid valve to close properly during systole. As a result, with each heart beat, blood is pumped out from the right side of the heart in the opposite direction to normal) Basically until the results are read by a heart specialist and then sent to Xander's doctor we are in another waiting game. It could be something he will outgrow or something else. I'm not prepared to worry about it right at the moment. I'm just glad it was found if it is serious.
The EEG was done and I have no idea how this turned out. I was fascinated when watching it but I am aware that even if it shows nothing abnormal it doesn't prove anything. We've seen him have seizures and know there is something going on inside his little chubby body. His doctor asked that I skip last night's medicine so he could be sedated today at the hospital and before he had his dose tonight he had another seizure. The only day in the past 3 weeks that we've been seizure free was yesterday when the medicine had built up in his system. And now we are back to trying to get him to that point. They have switched him to pills because the syrup was hard for him to swallow. Now I have to cut and crush his meds and mix them with baby food. It's easier to give to him but takes longer to prepare. His doctor said it could be longer to hear back about the EEG than the EKG so all we can do is go about our lives and wait for the results.
We have 48 hours to get ready for vacation. I have a mountain of laundry and dishes. We need to shop ahead of time and clean out the van and make lists of what to bring. I am ready for vacation but not sure I'm prepared to pack and travel. Annika has two weeks left until school starts! I'm excited for her but bummed that summer is that close to being over. That means the twins' birthday is just around the corner. This next year is going to bring a whole lot of firsts for them. I can't wait to watch them as toddlers, what fun!
